Do you care about reaching Gen Z?

Hey, Reader.

Have you considered how elder Gen Z "kids" are now in their late 20s?

Yup. Born after 1996 means that the eldest of them are 28 this year.

We'll give you a minute to reflect on feeling old.

⏳⌛️

Better? Didn't think so.

Anywho. What does this mean? 🧐

Well, if we want to reach young people, we need to understand them.

The American Pet Products Association's State of the Industry Report for 2024, said "Gen Z is changing the way owners want to learn about and purchase pet products."

This extends to all corners of the pet industry, including content creation around pet topics.

The question each of us needs to answer is, "Do we care about reaching Gen Z?"

We do, and so we wanted to share a bit more about them.

Here Are 3 Facts About Reaching Gen Z:

  1. They want to know all the Ws: Why do you care? Who are you as a person? What do you believe in? What inspired you and When? They want to feel connected to the brands and people they follow.
  2. They care about transparency and accountability.
  3. They search on TikTok and/or Instagram, more than Google. Short form video has a lot to do with this.

The Biggest Myth About Gen Z: Short Attention Spans

While writing this email we did some Googling (maybe we should have been TikToking) and found so many articles talk about Gen Z's short attention spans.

To that, we say "stop." Or, "STAHP!" ❌

Nope. Gen Z does not have short attention spans.

Somewhere in the world of marketing someone decided that because Gen Z does not willingly offer their attention to anyone who wants it, and they give you a whole 3-5 seconds to capture their attention, that they have short attention spans.

We simply don't agree and we think believing that is not helping your marketing efforts.

Every single Gen Z person we know binges content daily. Yes, DAILY!

Their attention spans are just fine, but they expect more from those who seek to grab their attention than past generations even knew they should expect.

Gen Z will not stick around hoping to learn something or that your content will get to some sort of point that they'll care about.

✅ They want you to get right to the point.
✅ They want you to capture their attention immediately.
✅ They want you to not waste their time.

These are not high asks, especially for a generation who was born with a device in their hands.

And once you succeed in capturing their attention, they will stick around and binge galore.

Because their attention spans are just fine.

We have so much more to say about this, but that probably calls for a blog post.

What do you have to say? Do you care about reaching Gen Z?

Hi Reader. Our hearts have been heavy as the wildfires in California tear through communities. It's hard to even grasp the idea that 10 lives, 10,000 structures, and we're sure hundreds of pet's lives have been lost. We remember how helpless we felt as we watched fires overtake Jessica's and Chloe's local communities in Colorado back on December 30, 2021. Seeing the magnitude of loss in California feels almost too overwhelming to process. We have gathered information to share with our...

Hey Reader. Seems like we are not the only ones leaking secrets. The two big differences between us sharing our secrets and Google's "secrets" coming to light: We did it on purpose. Google did not. We did it to share our behind-the-scenes with you. Google is now backpedaling because their unplanned leak exposed some of their behind-the-scenes. Most SEOs: Domain Authority of your site matters.Old Google: There is no such thing as Domain Authority.Google's leaked docs: That's because we call it...
